Catalina 30

Catalina 30 MKIII, American made Cruiser Sailing Yachtr

The “Avontuur” is the third model of the praised range of Catalina 30 sailing yachts produced in the U.S. For anyone who is looking for a spacious 30ft. cruiser sailing yacht, the Catalina is an excellent choice. The interior is well designed and the construction of robust quality. The cockpit is spacious and sheltered, steering wheel is mounted on a pedestal with various navigation equipment in front of the helmsman. The sails are operated from the cockpit, using the selftailng winches on the cockpit coaming and cabin roof. The traveler on the cabin roof provides extra trim possibilities. The mast has been shortened by the present owner in 2006 and the sails have been renewed at the same time. With an airdraft of 10.50m it is possible to sail under most bridges and with the new sailplan the sailing capabilities improved. The keel was converted in 2020 to a wingkeel with a max. draft of ca. 1.20m. A heavy Vetus bow thruster makes mooring easy. The Valliant dinghy is hoisted on the transom by the two stainless steel davits.

The open aft berth, adjoining saloon and the passage to the forepeak cabin give the interior a very spacious feel. On port side next to the companionway is a large U-shaped galley, with gimballed 2-burner stove and oven, double sink with running water, top loader coolbox and ample cabinet space. On starboard is a navigation corner with switchboard. The Zibro petroleum heater warms the entire cabin in a very short time. The L-shaped seating area can be converted to a double settee berth with an extra settee berth on the opposite side bench. Part of the aft berth is now used to place the additional battery capacity. Thanks to this impressive power pack, this Catalina is less dependent on shore power. The navigation equipment, such as the Autohelm can be used on longer voyages without creating a shortage of electricity. The wide V-bed in the forepeak is spacious enough for 2 people. The Heads is located between the saloon and the forepeak cabin with a manual pump toilet, sink and mirror cabinets.
