Sold: Contest 36 Ketch sturdy classic sailing yacht with center cockpit and roomy interior
General: The Contest 36 Ketch is a robustly built sailing yacht and certainly not a lightweight, but at the time designed by Dick Zaal as a Cruiser-Racer under IOR rules. This version is built as type-B, so with a deep keel of 1.90m. The Contest 36 ketch has a center cockpit and the mizzen mast is placed on the roof of the aft cabin. The steering wheel is placed on a pedestal with compass and cup holders, with teak on the cockpit floor and benches. The sheet winches are on the cockpit edge with the navigation equipment under the sprayhood. A climbing ladder is attached to the main mast. A furler is available for operating the headsails. There are three halyard winches on the mast for hoisting the mainsail. The sail quiver includes 13 sails. On the foredeck is a manual windlass and a tacking rail fort he jib. The teak deck has been partially replaced, such as on the cabin roof, aft- and anchor locker. Other teak deck needs maintenance and repair. A reconditioned Volvo Penta 2003 diesel engine has been installed by the current owners. The underwaterhull has been sanded and new antifouling applied in April 2021. The bow ladder makes it easy to get on board and is folded in during sailing. This Contest 36 Ketch is suitable for an owner with two right hands who can tackle the outstanding maintenance or has enough budget to outsource this. Because of the necessary maintenance, the Contest is sharply priced
Interior: The interior is made of mahogany and headroom in the cabin is 1.91 m. The woodwork needs new varnishing here and there. To starboard, next to the cabin entrance, is a large chart table with handy drawers. To port is a galley with sink, refrigerator and gas stove. Although new water tanks have been installed, there is no running water due to the absence of the necessary pipework and water pump. The aft cabin can be reached from the inside, in the passage is an extra toilet (out of order) and also a large hatch to the engine compartment. The aft cabin has two separate berths with a washbasin with mirror in between. All fixed and extra berths are equipped with swing planks. The saloon settees can also be used as extra berths, behind the settees there is plenty of cabinet space. Between the front cabin and saloon is a Heads with pump toilet and washbasin on port side. To starboard is a hanging closet and drawers. The V-bed offers two berths, the storage room below is reached by removing the infill piece.
