Volkerak 40

Sold: Volkerak 40 Ketch Sturdy steel sailing yacht, two helm positions, ketch and cutter rigged

General: The Volkerak 40 is a sturdy, stable and seaworthy sailing yacht suitable for making long journeys. The yacht was designed by A. Volker and built in the Netherlands at the Van Waveren yard. This Volkerak is ketch rigged with a mizzen and also has a cutter sail. Both the genoa and the cutter sail are equipped with a furling device. This gives the Volkerak a sail plan with extensive trim options. On deck there is plenty of space for sail handling and the mainsail is hoisted and lowered at the mast. The entire deck and cockpit are fitted with teak, which gives the Volkerak her stylish appearance. Depending on the conditions on the water, you can steer outside in the cockpit or inside. Navigation equipment is located at both helm positions, the windvane steering gear assists with long trips at sea. With the draft of 1.60m, the sailing area is large and you can also sail on inland waters. After 2020, the last owner carried out major maintenance on the hull, during which parts of steel in the underwater hull were renewed and a new paint system was applied.

Interior: From the cockpit, stairs leads to the wheelhouse, with helm and helmsman’s seat on the port side and a well-equipped galley on the starboard side. At the helm is the instrument panel and various navigation equipment. Next to the galley is a second removable seat. Down the stairs to the front you enter the saloon with a spacious seating corner, settee bench, folding table and various cupboards. The splendid woodwork and the ship’s heater give the interior a warm appearance. In the forepeak is a large v-bed with various cupboards for clothing, etc. Under the v-bed there is extra storage space for lines. Various hatches and portholes provide sufficient light in the interior. Next to the cabin entrance is a passage to an open aft cabin with two beds. Aft to starboard is the Heads, with pump toilet, sink, cabinet and line rack.
